You Bastards

I'm sure by now, most folks have heard about the big hullabaloo over at Comedy Central, wherein another episode of "South Park" got a couple of crazies on the Internet all in a dither. Only this time, the crazies were a bunch of Islamic extremists who wished death upon Trey Parker and Matt Stone for daring to depict Muhammad on the show. So naturally, Trey and Matt did what they do best - they made an episode making fun of the incident. And Comedy Central censored the everloving hell out of it, including bleeping out a minute-long monologue at the end about censorship vs. free speech. (Irony? What's that?)

I can kinda understand why they'd censor the Muhammad stuff (these are terrorists, after all, and they have a history of overreacting), but censoring Trey and Matt's opinion on censorship just goes way too far. Will "201" ever be broadcast again, or even made available on DVD? Probably not. And now Comedy Central has even tightened security at their studio, no doubt in an effort to make sure no brown people sneak in and try to blow the place to smithereens. All because some people have no sense of humor. Once again, the terrorists win.

  1. They also pulled an episode way back from Season 5, that actually features an uncensored image of Mohammed.

If 9/11 STILL has us afraid to leave our front doorsteps, then there's still a lot of work to do.

  2. Good gravy, everyone these days gets offended at something...

I'm not even a fan of the show, & I still think censoring something that's about censorship vs. free speech just sounds wrong.

  3. I might not be the biggest South Park fan in the world, and I get the whole "Don't piss off terrorists" part of Comedy Central's argument, but censoring the "Free Speech" part of it is a real kick in the teeth. Now you see why I am reluctant to trust the media these days.

  4. Sure, the "terrorists win", but is it a battle really worth fighting? This is a TV show, not the government giving in to a REAL threat.

  5. I seriously thought censoring that speech about the lesson was a joke.
    I actually laughed at it.

A shame we have to be on our toes now. It's a dark day in our country when we can get killed over free speech.

  6. People wonder why I'm an atheist. I like to say it's so I don't have to hate someone enough to kill them.

  7. If all it takes for a controversial idea to be supressed is one or two Islamic extremists threatening death, then where will it end?

I must salute Trey and Matt for not pretending this issue doesn't exist

  8. The truth must be told. It turns out the head of the Muslim group who threatened Matt and Trey is actually a former Israeli settler who seems to only be pretending to be a radical Muslim.

  9. Hmm, I thought you were exagerating with this pic. Then I saw the episode. Guess not.
