Ain't I A Stinker?

My girlfriend and I have been watching a lot of Looney Tunes together lately, and any kind of heavy exposure to the classic Warner Bros. cartoons is guaranteed to get my artistic gears turning. I drew a couple of quick Bugs Bunny sketches last night while reveling in my Golden Collections.

The Looney Tunes may not be in great shape right now, but at least we have a bunch of them on DVD. And that's definitely something to be grateful for - my girlfriend's friend's daughter is nearly two, and everyone agrees that I should bring over the Golden Collections for her to watch. The more kids get exposed to the classics, the better!

  1. Couldn't have put the phrase better, bud! Just last week I was teaching some "tweens" about Classic Animation at a local Primary School, and while most of them were still familiar with the likes of Looney Tunes (thank goodness), many of them looked surprised when clips of Hanna-Barbera suddenly popped up on the projector. Granted, while they're not as "on par" with the Termite Terrace crew, characters like Dastardly and Muttley, Quick Draw McGraw and even Wally Gator have still managed to gain a strong fanbase somewhere in the world :)

Oh, and ace sketches as well, especially the leaning pose there. It's always the legs I often struggle with personally...

  2. You know, as awesome as finished products are, I always find quick sketches to be the most informing on how someone draws, and how great detail can come via simple shapes. Like building blocks, in a weird way.

  3. Just today, we were watching a Chuck Jones tutorial for an animation elective I'm taking this quarter.

Looney Tunes are not going to die.

  5. You ever read the issue of Grant Morrison's Animal Man entitled "The Coyote Gospel"? You'll never look at cartoons the same way again:

  6. Right. Exposing them to the classics should be good. That's what I suggested to one of my friends about his nephews.

Man, I need to watch Looney Tunes again at some point, it's been a while...
